Background:

Personality:

Life hasn't been kind to Jyn. She was orphaned at a young age and later left to fend for herself after she is "betrayed" by her other father figure when she is 16. Finding herself on her own so many times has hardened her and made her weary of others, lest they backstab her, abandon her, or die themselves. Losing her first love to crossfire in the war between the Rebels and the Empire has caused her to be hesitant to be attracted to or show affection to men she's compatible with for the reasons listed. Her journey from felon in prison to leader in a rogue rebellion is starting to loosen her up again and she continues to learn to trust again---albeit slowly---once she arrives in Verens.

Jyn is quite defiant. Being told she can't do something just makes her more motivated to do just that. When she's told she won't be receiving help from the rebels because it's pointless and hopeless, she becomes impatient and spiteful and goes off to do it by herself anyway. She isn't deterred by the fact that she would be aided by only three other people. She knows what she wants to do and isn't going to let anyone tell her she can't. The only times she allows herself to listen to someone else is once they've garnered her trust. She listens to her parents, Galen and Lyra, when they tell her to hide from Krennic (albeit after defying them and watching from from a distance) when the Krennic comes to bring her father back to continue the research Galen had abandoned.

Despite being a bit recalcitrant, she is heroic at heart. Jyn doesn't help people for the glory but only because she feels it's the right thing to do. She has qualms about killing people and doesn't ever kill when she doesn't need to---solely out of self-defense or defense of the innocent. Her dedication to helping others is fueled heavily by her history of parental figures dying at the hands of tyrannical dictators and their minions. She initially loses both of her biological parents to an Imperial general; her surrogate mother to a firefight in the war; her father figure, Saw Gerrera, to an Imperial weapon her father has had a hand in sabotaging; and eventually she watches her father die in her arms as a result of a Rebel bombardment. Seeing as how both sides of the war have caused her pain, she refuses to take sides until a message from Galen tells her about the evils the Empire intends to unleash on the galaxy. His message convinces her taking sides is necessary---that the Empire is the greatest source of evil that must be thwarted. Finally acknowledging the "good guys" side of the war, she becomes determined to do what is right, which would be to stop the Empire before they can do any of the horrible things her father told her they could do.

Jyn has a bit of a soft spot for young girls in peril. She goes out of her way to help two, for example: when storm troopers steal a little girl's Tooka-cat pet, Jyn takes them on and rescues the cat, returning it to its owner. Additionally, when another little girl is caught in a firefight in an assault on Jedha, she selflessly carries the girl to the safety of her mother's arms. She relates to their helplessness and fear and her knee-jerk reaction is to help them as best she can without a second thought. If someone like her had helped her when she was young, she wouldn't have had to go through the hardships she did, such as homelessness and torture, struggling to survive in a world that isn't concerned with her well-being.

While she hasn't had many chances to explore her interests after she takes on a life of lawlessness, she does develop a few artistic hobbies. She appreciates reading and being read to as well as drawing and watching holodramas. She especially liked drawing people, which would become ironic after Jyn loses too many of her loved ones to allow herself to care about other people too much. Once she has access to books and visual stories again, she will once again read and watch in her spare time, though it will take her a while to trust that it's safe to do so without having to worry about being captured and imprisoned.

Abilities:
  • Fighting: Jyn can scrap with the best of them in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Aptitude with guns: she has remarkable aim with a blaster.
  • Forging documents: she can fake documents or whatever as needed to get by.

Alignment:
Sosyne: all of her losses and stresses in life have caused her to be pretty impetuous and aggravated. She could use a little calming down.

Other:  Hugging Cassian as a giant wave of water and dirt immerses them is the point at which she arrives suddenly in Verens. Her kyber crystal given to her by her mother will serve as her amulet, albeit with some slight adjustments, such as enough transparency for her to see it gaining emotion drops and turning different colors.

I play her as she's written in the book "Rebel Rising," even though the book isn't canon

LATER EDIT: now that she's moved in with Bodhi and co.,  here's the floor plan of their house. They also have a handful of cats.
